Code update for TENS and associated supplies

The ICD-10-CM guidelines for coding transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulators (TENS) and associated supplies have been updated to further clarify indications that are considered to be experimental/investigational. Therefore, AmeriHealth is updating our policy on TENS and associated supplies to reflect these coding changes. Medical Policy #05.00.74c: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulators (TENS) and Associated Supplies is currently posted as a Notification and will go into effect May 7, 2018.

Code updates

The following ICD-10 codes have been added to Attachment A of the TENS policies as indications that are considered experimental/investigational when billed with HCPCS codes E0720 and E0730:
