Beginning October 7, 2018, FutureScripts?, our pharmacy benefits manager, will begin notifying prescribers of upcoming expirations of pharmacy prior authorizations through an ePRO (electronic proactive prior authorization) fax. Prescribers can respond to the notice via fax or through our new electronic prior authorization (ePA) platform. Details about the new platform were shared in a Partners in Health UpdateSM article, which was posted on August 31, 2018.
Fax notifications
When you receive an ePRO fax about an AmeriHealth member?s upcoming prior authorization expiration, it will include the drug name and details about the prescription, including a suggestion for formulary alternatives (if applicable). The fax will also include a drug-specific prior authorization request form for each member. Should you have a question about the prior authorization information or form, you can contact a Prior Authorization Advocate at FutureScripts at the number listed on the fax.
Below is a sample of an ePRO fax notification:
What to do if you receive an ePRO fax notification
If you receive a fax from FutureScripts about an upcoming expiration of a pharmacy prior authorization expiration for one of your AmeriHealth patients, you should consider if the prior authorization is still required or if the drug still fits the patient?s needs. You have two options for requesting a prior authorization:
- Fax. You can fax the information to FutureScripts using the instructions on the fax cover sheet. Note: The form must be complete in order to be processed.
- ePA. You can log into the ePA platform to complete the information and submit online.
FutureScripts will send reminder faxes to prescribers who have not completed the request every seven days (up to 28 days).
