Precertification no longer needed for certain mental health and substance abuse services for AmeriHealth New Jersey members

May 1, 2012

This article is to clarify that precertification is no longer required for the following services for AmeriHealth New Jersey members: in-network outpatient non-serious mental health visits; in-network outpatient treatment for drug dependency. This aligns with the existing New Jersey no-precertification requirement for serious mental illness and alcohol abuse/dependency outpatient professional services. Please note that precertification continues to be required for intensive outpatient programs and partial hospitalization programs (outpatient rehabilitation) for serious mental health, non-serious mental health, and alcohol/drug abuse and dependency treatment. If you have any questions about these changes, please contact your Network Coordinator or Hospital/Ancillary Services Coordinator.
