Expansion of urgent care staffing model options

December 12, 2022

AmeriHealth HMO, Inc., AmeriHealth Insurance Company of New Jersey, and AmeriHealth Administrators (collectively, AmeriHealth) recognizes that some urgent care centers (UCC) are having challenges with staffing given recent health care provider shortages.

While the preference of AmeriHealth is for each UCC to have full-time onsite physician coverage, effective immediately, AmeriHealth is expanding staffing options for urgent care centers and allowing UCCs to be staffed by a credentialed Nurse Practitioner or credentialed Physician Assistant utilizing on-site or off-site remote supervision by a participating professional provider (MD or DO).

In order to pursue this staffing model, a new Patient Safety Protocol will be implemented to ensure members are seen appropriately by a physician.

The reimbursement rate is 85 percent of the contracted urgent care rate. Please contact your designated Contract Manager for further details. You can also email us at ucc@amerihealth.com if you have any questions or are nonparticipating and requesting to join our network.

All providers must meet all AmeriHealth standard credentialing criteria. AmeriHealth reserves the right to accept or deny urgent care providers into its network.
