Prime Healthcare announces plans to cease acute care services at Suburban Community Hospital: How our members are impacted

Independence Blue Cross (IBX) has been notified by Prime Healthcare that Suburban Community Hospital (Suburban) will cease providing acute care medical services effective 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2025. On July 1, 2025, Suburban will begin operating as an inpatient psychiatric facility serving as a satellite unit of Roxborough Memorial Hospital, Philadelphia (Roxborough). Providers should be aware of this change and its impact on regional care delivery.

Capitation sites

These closures may impact capitated radiology and physical therapy services for your patients who are IBX members.

If your office currently relies on Suburban for these capitated services, it is important to choose a new designated site as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition for your IBX patients.

To choose a new capitated site online, complete and submit a Provider Change Request form and save the autogenerated ticket (case number) for future reference. Please note, this change may take up to 30 days to take effect.

To help expedite the process, you can also reach out to your Provider Partnership Associate. Be sure to have your ticket (case) number available for escalations.

For questions regarding the conversion, you can reach out to Suburban at 610-278-2000 or Roxborough at 215-483-9900.
