Effective February 17, 2025, Independence Blue Cross and Independence Administrators will be updating their Commercial policy on Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Primary Snoring.
The intent of this policy has not changed, however, the body mass index (BMI) policy criterion for Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation (HGNS) in adults OSA was revised to 35 kg/m2.
In addition, the coverage position has changed from Not Medically Necessary to Experimental/Investigational for HGNS when policy criteria are not met.
