Effective June 1, 2019, Independence will begin to offer drug rebates at the point of sale to fully-insured commercial members who have prescription drug benefits and fill rebate-eligible brand medications through retail pharmacies or the mail.

Independence has historically used the rebates received from drug manufacturers to help offset all members’ prescription drug plan costs and premiums. However, as drug costs continue to rise, Independence believes there is a greater need for additional transparency and innovative methods that ensure members are getting the best value, directly, for their health care dollars.
