Specialty medications are covered through Independence prescription plans, 
which are administered by FutureScripts®. Effective 
January 1, 2015, it is mandatory that Independence members receive 
their specialty medications through our exclusive specialty pharmacy provider 
BriovaRxTM. Therefore, Independence members will no longer be able 
to obtain specialty medications from a retail or mail-order pharmacy, unless it 
is their first fill of the specialty medication.
 
The FutureScripts Specialty Pharmacy Program brings a single, reliable 
source for our members? specialty medication needs. As you may know, many 
specialty drugs require special storage and handling and are usually 
administered at home. With the FutureScripts Specialty Pharmacy Program, 
members will have access to these services and conveniences:
 
- Medication counseling 24/7. Pharmacists are available to 
answer any questions members have about their specialty medications, explain 
how to inject certain medications, and discuss possible side effects.
- Educational materials to support improved health. Members 
will receive pertinent information about their health condition and specialty 
medication along with their prescription to help them better understand how the 
drug treats their condition, potential side effects, and ways they can manage 
their medication more effectively.
- Confidential and convenient order and delivery. Ordering 
specialty medication is simple using the convenient, toll-free telephone number 
listed on the member?s ID card. Medications will be delivered to them anywhere 
in the U.S. in confidential packaging and with no additional shipping 
charges.
- Refill reminder service. Members will receive a phone call 
before the scheduled refill date. During this call, a representative from 
FutureScripts will confirm the prescription dosage and delivery system, discuss 
any side effects, and answer any questions.
