Effective July 1, 2015, Independence will begin deploying 
an enhanced provider payment process for certain
members with health reimbursement accounts (HRA). For these members, the 
provider will receive the member?s
portion of a medically adjusted claim at the same time Independence sends 
medical claim payment. Providers will be
able to see that a service has been paid in full on their Explanation of 
Payment, which eliminates the need to balance
bill members and reduces the possibility of a duplicate payment situation 
(i.e., a member pays a provider bill and the
HRA pays the provider for the same services).
Note: This enhancement is only available to certain members with 
HRAs. Factors that affect balances, such as debit cards, prevent this 
enhancement from being deployed for all HRA members.
