In December 2011, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the
Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated recommendations
for the meningococcal vaccine and booster dose.1
Updated recommendations include vaccinating adolescents at 11 or 12 years with
the quadrivalent meningococcal
vaccine and administering a booster dose at age 16 with the objective of
protecting adolescents and young adults
between 16 and 21 years when meningococcal disease rates peak.
