Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and Premier Orthopaedics (Premier), a 
full-service physician owned orthopedic practice with locations throughout 
Chester and Delaware counties, reached a new five-year agreement making Premier 
a participant in Independence's Facilitated Health Networks (FHN) model. The 
agreement became effective October 1, 2018.
The Independence FHN model is a collaborative approach that is focused on 
bringing health insurers, hospitals, and doctors together to improve the 
quality and lower the costs of healthcare in the region. As a participant, 
Premier has agreed to implement site of service and episodes of care programs, 
which places accountability on their physicians for the patients' entire 
episode of care, ensuring:
- appropriate diagnostic tests are completed;
- procedures are performed in the most appropriate setting;
- all follow-up care results in an optimal outcome for Independence 
members.
The agreement illustrates a continued commitment between Independence and 
Premier to work together ensuring members receive the highest quality of care 
from providers who are highly-engaged in the process.
