The deadline to convert from ICD-9 to ICD-10 is quickly
approaching. As of October 1, 2014, the following
changes will be in effect, as required by the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA):
- Outpatient claims with dates of service on or after
October 1, 2014, must be submitted with ICD-10
codes.
- Inpatient claims with discharge dates on or after
October 1, 2014, must be submitted with ICD-10
codes.
Adherence to these guidelines is required under HIPAA,
and claims that are submitted with non-compliant ICD-9
codes after the effective date will be rejected.

providers. Because we cannot possibly test with all
network providers, we will share with you our successes
and challenges that we experience with our testing

2014 to help us all be fully ready for ICD-10.
