Upcoming changes to policy for wheelchair options and accessories​

​For dates of service on or after July 18, 2022, Independence and Independence Administrators are making changes to the Medical Policy regarding wheelchair options and accessories.

Criteria have been added to include the following items as Not Covered for Medicare Advantage members:

  • Transit system and related components
  • Memory seat program power option

Criteria have been added to include the following items as a Benefit Contract Exclusion for Commercial members:

  • Transit system and related components
  • Memory seat program power option

Additionally, new reimbursement criteria have been added regarding face-to-face encounters for both Commercial and Medicare Advantage members.
